My favorite part of writing, by far, is outlining.  I know writers who skip the step entirely, but I cannot imagine rushing into a book headfirst without knowing where I am going.  I love it so much that just about every book idea that comes across my mind gets inserted into tables and fleshed out into a full outline.  I have dozens of outlines of books that may never be written, simply because the idea enticed me enough to give it that level of thought.

Even in the quietest of times, when my head is all but empty, these outlines swirl about and remind me that I have a craft to hone.  Like worms crawling about in my brain, they spin my ideas into something more, something that may some day resemble a beautiful moth of a book, if I ever find the time and motivation.
