To celebrate Earth Day, I have chosen my poem “Grow.”
I have often heard the phrase, “grow where you are planted,” meaning that we should make the most of what we have and be happy in our own circumstances. There is a lot to be said for learning to be happy with what you have, but I believe in striving for more.
There is a beauty in achieving unconventional success. Even without achievement, it is honorable, at least to me, to attempt growth in directions that others may not consider worthwhile. After all, if any of the great inventors, artists, scientists, groundbreakers of the world had simply “grown where they were planted,” then what would we have?
No, I believe it is always worth it to reach for something just out of grasp. And who knows? Maybe you will find that you thrive in the unlikeliest of places.
Stay tuned for more “Behind the Poem” entries throughout the month of April, and if you want a sneak peek at tomorrow’s poem, check my Patreon. (It’s free!)
Happy reading,
Sibyl
