Day 12: Fantasy, Behind the Poem

As much as I love writing poetry, I have always considered myself a fantasy writer.  I think it is in the functioning of my brain (and maybe my attention span), but the world I created for my characters over twenty years ago has never left me, and I know it never will.

“Fantasy” is about observing that world and recording what I see there.  As I am bombarded by daydreams that take place in my fantasy setting, I never know which ones will stick with me, burning to be written, and which ones will flitter away as soon as I’ve thought them.

By writing these ideas down, I am caging the thoughts, actions, words, and emotions of my characters, then releasing the characters back into the ether of my mind to keep on living their lives for my benefit.

Stay tuned for more “Behind the Poem” entries throughout the month of April, and if you want a sneak peek at tomorrow’s poem, check my Patreon.  (It’s free!)
